Accounting & HR Manager

The Accounting & HR Manager is responsible for leading the finance and administration team for Rowland Seeds, as well as planning and overseeing an effective office environment, office services and oversee HR functions for the company. The primary role is responsible for overseeing the full accounting cycle for Rowland Seeds Inc. and affiliated companies, including accounts receivable entries, supervising accounts payable, and payroll, as well as managing period end reporting, reconciling account statements and sub-ledgers, foreign exchange and preparing correcting journal entries where required.  

Other responsibilities include overseeing employee and contractor information including time and attendance tracking, payroll reports, and assuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations, and company policies.

Specific job duties will include:

  • Supervising and developing the Rowland Seeds finance and administration team.

  • Collaborate with the Business Manager/Controller to lead and coordinate collection goals and general A/R performance levels.

  • Assist sales team with preparation of new customer account set up, credit checks, customer invoices and statements. Post and reconcile company receipts to general ledgers.

  • Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies or misapplied cash transactions.

  • Assist with any government GST or financial reviews and audits. Meet with auditors and provide information for audit process as requested. 

  • Assist with lease, mortgage and loan processes by providing documentation, follow through with trust payments, etc. 

  • Oversee office environment to maximize office teamwork, efficiency, security, cleanliness and maintenance.   

  • Liaise with third party suppliers and/or service providers as necessary and assist with negotiations of service level agreements. 

  • Prepare end of month reconciliations, general ledger entries and reports, including overseeing and recording intercompany transactions for review by Business Manager/Controller. 

  • Balance sheet, P&L account review, reconciliation and preparation of associated monthly reports including payroll and GST. 

  • End of month close duties, reconciliations, general ledger entries and report preparation, including overseeing and recording intercompany transactions

  • Prepare margin reports, and P&L variance analysis as well as internal quarterly reports. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree or diploma in Business, Commerce or Accounting would be an asset, and other equivalents may be considered.

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks

  • Five years progressively responsible experience in an office environment, including responsibility for full cycle accounting processes, is a minimum requirement for this role.  

  • Must be knowledgeable of Canadian tax rules.

  • Experience in agriculture and a broad understanding of agriculture is necessary

Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada and be willing to relocate Taber, Alberta if necessary. Remote work is not available.
